Japanese diplomat Yukiya Amano has been elected to head the UN nuclear watchdog, the International Atomic Energy Agency. The 62 year-old Amano has long been a likely candidate for the top job in the IAEA.
He replaces the outgoing director general, Mohammed el Baradei. The Egyptian diplomat’s third and last term ends in November.
