The 14-year-old girl from Marseille who is the only known survivor of the Yemenia airline crash off the Comoros islands is recovering in hospital.

Her father, Kassim Bakari, described what his daughter experienced as she struggled to survive in the sea, clinging to objects floating in the water. No other survivors have so far been found. Mr Bakari said: “I asked her how it happened and she said ‘we saw the plane fall into the water. I was then in the water. I heard people talking. I saw nobody. I was in the dark. I saw nothing, and Papa, I couldn’t swim very well. I grabbed onto something in the water, I dont know what it was’.” French and US aircraft have joined the hunt for possible survivors. A flotilla of boats is also searching the sea off the main Comoro island. There were 153 people on board the flight.More about: ,
