Crash plane passed safety checks in May

The Yemeni transport minister said the stricken plane had undergone a full inspection in May under the supervision of Airbus engineers. A team of Airbus investigators is due in the crash zone soon.

The European Union’s Transport Commissioner is to propose a global blacklist of airlines following the Comoros crash. Antonio Tajani said it would be along similar lines to the list which currently operates in the EU. Yemenia Airways is due to be interviewed by the European Union’s safety committee. The airline is not banned by the EU but France subjects its planes to more rigorous checks than others. The jet that crashed was built in 1990, and had been used by Yemenia since 1999.
