Argentina is voting today in mid-term elections that bode badly for President Cristina Fernandez.

Her allies are predicted to lose their majority in the lower house of Congress and only just keep control of the Senate. Fernandez’s husband, ex-president Nestor Kirchner is running for a seat in Congress in a bid to shore up support for her administration. He may also be testing the water for a crack at the 2011 presidential election. His direct rival is millionaire Peronist dissident Francisco de Narvaez. Kirchner is campaiging for a seat in the Buenos Aires province, home to nearly 40 percent of the population. The ruling spouses have been criticised for their confrontational style and failure to reign in inflation as the economy falters.More about:
