Michael Jackson was a truly global superstar, with fans all around the world. Many are sad naturally, but the thousands drawn to London’s Trafalgar Square wanted to celebrate the singer’s life.
Jackson died just weeks before launching a year-long series of concerts in London, and concern is growing about ticket refunds. Promoters say tickets bought directly from them will probably be re-paid, but those from other outlets may not be. It’s also emerged that only the first ten of the 50 shows were insured, because of worries about Jackson’s health.
A similar mood of sadness and celebration was to be seen in Paris. President Sarkozy said he had been profoundly moved by Jackson’s death, someone he described as a global star, famous on every continent.
A tribute in Beirut turned into an impromptu concert, celebrating Jackson’s life and songs. The fans used the Twitter social network to spread the word. Twitter and similar sites said so many messages had been sent around the world since the singer’s death that the system came close to crashing.
