After a period of improvement US/Iranian relations appear to be deteriorating rapidly over Iran’s disputed election. President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad has compared Barack Obama to George Bush and accused him of interfering in Iranian affairs.

The US President has become increasingly outspoken about the election, which the opposition candidate, Mirhossein Mousavi, claims was rigged. He has again urged his supporters to continue peaceful protest against the result, even though the authorities are cracking down on demonstrations. They have said they will be on the streets tomorrow to commemorate the estimated 20 people who have died in the unrest. The commander of the Revolutionary Guard in Tehran has said order has now been fully restored to the city and praised citizens who helped the security forces. Iran’s worst political crisis since the 1979 revolution has exposed deep divisions not just among ordinary people, but also among the ruling clergy. Against this turbulent background many young people are taking their university entrance exams.
