Road safety improving across Europe

Road safety across the European Union is improving steadily but not by enough to meet targets set for next year.

That is the conclusion the European Transport Security Safety Council has come to in its latest report. It is aiming to reduce the number of people dying on our roads every year to 27,000. The figures for last year are an improvement – down by 15,400 on 2007 – a drop of 8.5 percent. But they are still some way off the declared goal. Britain, Sweden, Malta and the Netherlands are among the countries with the best safety records. Greece, Lithuania and Latvia are among the worst.More about: , ,
