Lufthansa has got permission from the European Commission to buy Brussels Airlines.

The German flag carrier had satisfied the EU Competition Commissioner it will not dominate routes between Belgium and Germany and Switzerland when the 250 million euro deal goes ahead. It did that by agreeing to let rivals take over some of its slots. European Commission spokesman Jonathan Todd said: “We are confident that these slots that will be made available will be taken up by new market entrants. People flying on the routes where we had concerns will continue to be offered a choice of airlines.” Lufthansa has also struck a deal to acquire a majority stake in the UK airline BMI and hopes also to get EU approval to buy loss-making Austrian Airlines as it expands through acquisitions within Europe.More about: Airlines, EU Commission
