Nearly 70 killed in Iraq truck bomb

world news

| |

The search for more bodies continues today in the northern Iraqi city of Kirkuk where a truck bomb exploded killing up to 70 men, women and children. Most victims were from the Turkomen community who were leaving a Shia mosque in the town of Taza when the blast happened. Scores of people living in nearby mud-brick homes were also killed or injured. The latest attack comes days before US forces are due to withdraw from towns and cities in Iraq.

Kirkuk is about 250km from Baghdad and was the scene of two suicide bombings last month in which 14 people were killed. This latest attack casts doubt on the ability of Iraqi security forces to take over after US forces leave. All American troops will be gone by 2012.More about: ,
