Investigators into the Air France crash which killed 228 people have expressed guarded optimism that a cause will be found.

Paul Louis Arslanian, the director of the invesigating body the BEA believes that little by little they are approaching their goal of understanding what happened, as the search for the aircraft black boxes continues. “When we recover the black boxes, we will be able to work on a number of valuable data,” he said. “If we don’t have data coming from onboard flight recorders we still have many, many data but we are still in the process of increasing our knowledge of what is available.” The inquiry has revealed faulty data was sent from frozen speed sensors. Arslanian said it was legitimate for operators to have replaced the suspect parts, but said only when the investigation was complete would it be known if they were a cause of the crash.More about: Air France, France, Plane crash
