Video images of one of the world’s most wanted men, Ratko Mladic, accused of war crimes and genocide in the Bosnian war enjoying the good life, has been broadcast on Bosnian television. It has sparked fury among those who witnessed his acts 14 years ago.

It has also angered Serbs who claim the pictures are old and have been released now only to sabotage Serbia’s attempts to rejoin the international community. But for Bosnians who survived the bloodletting during the war it does not matter when the pictures were taken: “Politics is involved in this because it is not in some people’s interest to arrest him because then they would also have to go to the Hague,” said Srebrenica survivor Sahomerovic Zumra. Bosnian television maintains the pictures were taken just a year ago. Mladic, along with the Bosnian Serb’s political leader Radovan Karadzic, currently on trial for war crimes, is notably accused of murdering 7,000 Bosnian men and boys in Srebrenica. He is believed to have lived a relatively free life, moving from place to place within Serbia since the end of the war and has avoided all attempts to arrest him.More about: Bosnian war, War crimes
