Bosnia airs “new” Mladic tv pictures

One of Europe’s most-wanted men has reappeared on television.

The pictures of the renegade Serb general Ratko Mladic were shown on Bosnian television and are said by the station to have been shot last winter. They show Mladic with his family, still very much a free man enjoying life. However, Serbia denied the story, saying the pictures are not new. Belgrade accused Bosnia of trying to derail its application to join Europe. “All the footage you have seen comes from pictures we handed over to the War Crimes Tribunal,” said government spokesman Rasim Ljajic. “How they then reached television stations is an issue that needs investigating.” Mladic is wanted for genocide and crimes against humanity committed during the Bosnian war in the early-1990s. His co-accused, Radovan Karadzic, is now on trial at the Hague charged with similar crimes, including the massacre of thousands of Muslims at Srebrenica in 1995.More about: ,
