Twenty six mine workers are missing after an accident in Ukraine. Twenty seven of the 53 miners involved managed to reach the surface, according to officials at the Skochynsky mine near the eastern town of Donetsk.

A spokesman for the mines inspectorate said there has been an emission of coal and gas, adding that the exact situation in the mine, including of those missing remains unclear. Last year a dozen Ukrainian miners died in explosions.More about: ,
