More debris and personal belongings have been recovered from the Atlantic by navy crews searching for the Air France jet which crashed exactly one week ago.

So far 17 bodies have also been retrieved. The Brazilian-led team is concentrating on an area about 70 kilometres from where the plane sent out messages signalling electrical faults before disappearing. The wreckage and any bodies found are being transported to a the nearby Brazilian island of Fernando de Noronha, where the military has set up a staging post for the search operation. It is still not known what caused the crash but one possibility is that speed sensors may have iced up giving faulty readings causing the pilots to fly too fast into violent equatorial storms.More about: ,
