Bulgaria’s European election was overshadowed by allegations of vote-buying, at 20 euros a pop reported state radio. It was estimated parties gave away 6 million euros ahead of the poll, but with turnout of only 37.49%, it seems most felt the bribe was not worth the effort.
 
The Conservative party emerged victorious with around 24.48%, giving them 6 seats and the ruling Socialists obtained 18.58%, giving them 4 out of the 17 MEP’s seats allocated to Bulgaria.
 
The liberal parties between them have won 5 seats,
winning around 20% of the vote between them.
 
The Ataka nationalist Party polled 12.01% of the votes winning two seats.
  
In Romania turnout was at a record low, just 27.4%, and the leftist Social Democrat PSD and  centre right liberal democrat PDL, together in a ruling coalition, were separated by just a shade over one percentage point. The PSD take 11 seats, the PDL 10. Running as an independent, but, it was claimed, with help from her father, the president’s daughter Elena Basescu was elected with 4.22% of the vote.
