In Cyprus voting in the European election was said to be running at a much slower rate than in the previous ballot in 2004, suggesting a lower turnout.

By midday only around 26 percent of the electorate had cast their ballots. 2004 was the year the country joined the European Union along with nine other states. Political leaders and the country’s president urged people to get out and vote in large numbers.More about: , ,
