Latvia: pro Russia parties make gains

Exit poll results in Latvia are indicating an historic shift in the politics of the Baltic state.

Two pro-Russian parties have appeared to have made big gains possibly taking 20 per cent of the
vote.

The European elections are providing a tough test for Latvia’s government, whose popularity has tumbled over the economy.

Analysts predict several of the five parties that make up the governing coalition will take a battering.

Heavy losses could further destabalise an already fragile administration.
