Air speed seen as factor in Air France crash

As the search continues for wreckage of the Air France plane that crashed in the Atlantic continues, experts are increasingly looking at speed as a factor.

Brazilian search teams have now said debris found in the region where the Airbus 330-200 went down did not come from the doomed aircraft.

Friends and relatives of the 228 people on board are coming terms with the fact that the bodies of their loved ones may never be found.

Some 10,000 Air France staff gathered at the company’s headquarters in Paris to mourn the victims.

At the ceremony one employee said: “It could have been anyone one of us. So we’re supporting ourselves and trying to comfort one another.”

Another said: “We’ll find it difficult to regain our peace of mind until we find out how such a thing could happen.”

The plane was flying through a thunderstorm at the time and investigators believe it may not have been flying at the correct speed to cope with the conditions.
