Europe poised to take command in space

The launch of a Soyuz rocket in Kazakhstan will help create history when it blasts off with its crew of three to dock with the International Space Station.

Among the astronauts is Belgian Frank De Winne who will become the first European to take command of the space station. He believes it is a symbolic moment in the history of space exploration. “I think it shows a great example to the rest of the world that if nations want to work together for something great, for something wonderful, for something for the future of our kids, that we can achieve incredible things,” he said.

Signifigantly too it will be the first time astronauts from all five partner space agencies will work together in orbit. The launch will also take the number on the orbiting laboratory to six the largest on board ever.
