French consumer spending seems to be holding up for the moment.

Shoppers bought more manufactured goods than expected in April. The national statistics office said consumer spending was up by 0.7 percent from March, helped by a rise in car sales. Economists had expected a slight fall but said the growing numbers of jobless in France could start to pull down consumption in the future.More about: , ,
