The Basque region’s first non-nationalist president Patxi Lopez is promising to wage an relentless war against ETA terrorists.
In an interview with euronews, due to be screened this evening, Mr Lopez also fired a broadside at Batasuna, ETA’s banned political wing and other parties like Internationalist Initiative which has been accused of having links to ETA. He said: “Those that work as a link in a chain for a terrorist group, that give them a political cover, that look for finance or give social support to those that kill people of this country simply because they think differently, don’t have a place in politics or in democratic institutions.” Meanwhile the Internationalist Initiative group – supported by Arnaldo Otegi the former leader of ETA’s banned political wing – has been given the green light to take part in the European Parliament elections next month.
