A political crisis in Britain over MPs expenses looks set to claim a high-profile casualty.

Several British media are reporting that the speaker of the lower house of parliament will announce his resignation later today. Michael Martin has come under unprecedented attack from all three main parties over his handling of a scandal that has rocked parliament. MPs claiming public money for everything from light-bulbs to tennis court repairs have been named and shamed in the media. The scandal appears to have hit the Prime Minister’s Labour party the hardest. The last time a British speaker of parliament lost his job was in 1695.More about:
