A German voter asks: “What, concretely, do you see raising citizens’ interest for the European elections?”

Response: “I’m Pervenche Beres, President of the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee, candidate on the Socialist list for Ile-de-France, in second position. In national public life, the European public space is not as present. Political debate remains a national debate, even though a lot of decisions are taken at European level. Therefore, I believe that we must make a commitment to bring the same density of political debate to both national and European levels. For this poll and for others, I believe we might have to re-open the debate on compulsory voting, since if we pay taxes we should also be able to express the way we want these taxes to be managed. It’s true on the national level and evidently, by extension, at the European level. Maybe it’s time to bring that up.”More about: ,
