The European Commission has said there’s been some progress towards saving Poland’s Gdansk shipyard. Brussels has demanded the yards repay more than 2-billion euros in illegal state aid, raising the prospect of closure. The government sold the Gdansk yard, but the Commission says some details of the restructuring plan are still unclear.

EC spokesman Jonathan Todd said: “We consider that the new restructuring plan submited a week ago is an improvement on the previous restructuring plan. However there is room for further clarity concerning the financing of the restructuring.” The Polish government has announced that they’ve found a buyer for Gdynia, another yard facing closure for the same reason. The European Commission are awaiting details of that yard’s restructuring plan.More about: EU Commission, Poland
