Wayward youth takes to Cannes red carpet

world news

The second day of the Cannes film festival has seen a couple of premiers for films about young people looking to break free from the constraints imposed on them by their pasts and their backgrounds.

Director Andrea Arnold, who won the jury prize in 2006 with Red Road this year has Fish Tank in the competion. This grittily realist film follows the life of a rebellious adolescent from a depressed neighbourhood.

Legendary film director Francis Ford Coppola’s latest film Tetro is making its premier at Cannes.

It tells the story of a 17 year old who travels to Buenos Aries to find his brother who has been out of contact for ten years. Coppola says the film is his most creative work since 1974’s The Conversation.
