A German visiting Brussels asks:
“Will Turkey get into the European Union?”
Vice President of the EastWest Institute, Ortwin Hennig responds:
“The process of negotiations between the European Union and Turkey is open. There are good reasons that support Turkey becoming an EU member, among others strategic and diplomatic reasons.
It would be useful for Turkey to reach a European level swiftly, that it does not continue on a path to dewesternisation which Turkish society is on now.
And also that the Turkish government encourage its nationals in western Europe not only to be present physically but to be active partners in western society.”
