Scores of citizens from across the EU have met top policy-makers in Brussels to hand over their recommendations for tackling the economic and social challenges facing the bloc.

The opinions of 250 thousand online users were canvassed for the “Citizens’ Summit” – a cross section of populations of the 27 member states. “People think that its very good that there’s no border and that we will have the Euro, we’ll be in the Euro-zone, but they don’t want anything else from the EU.” said one participant. “I am aware that many Germans know very little about the European Parliament, and they don’t understand how important it is,” said another. The final recommendations range from wide-ranging measures to boost the EU economy to tighter supervision of financial markets and more investment in sustainable energy. They will form the basis for discussion with the new MEPs voted in in June’s European elections.More about: European elections, European Union
