France marks WW2 victory

President Nicolas Sarkozy has led the French commemorations for victory over Nazi Germany in World War Two. After the traditional parade on the Champs Elysees in Paris, he continued his policy of visiting memorial services elsewhere.

Following visits to Normandy last May, and Lorraine for November’s WW1 Armistice Day, the President paid his respects in Ste-Maxime in Provence. This was where the allies launched the invasion of southern France in August 1944.More about: , ,
