In 2004 an enlarged Europe went to the polls and tried to paper over cracks made by the Iraq war. It was not made easier with the following leadership crisis, the new balance of power between parliament, council and commission, and the lack of political vision.
Then Europe was hit by a sucession of unprecedented events, which seems to have brought members closer.
This edition of Parlemento rounds up the last 5 years.
