Thousands of people have taken the streets of the Spanish capital to mark May Day.

The holiday is usually a cause for celebration but this year amid an atmosphere of record unemployment, for many it was a chance to call on the government to do more to allieviate the crisis. In short workers should not be the ones to pay for the crisis. The one who provoked it should pay for it. And the ones who have benefited of an economic model which has given them dozens of thousands of millions of euros in the last few years.” With the scene much the same in several other major cities, some unions have described the protest as the biggest show of strength in 15 years.More about: ,
