The centre-right European People’s Party looks set to back José Manuel Barroso in his bid to remain President of the European Commission.

At their pre-election congress in Warsaw, the word was that party leaders are ready to give the outgoing head of the EU’s executive body the green light for a second mandate. Later today, EPP leaders are also due to adopt their manifesto for June’s European Elections. The balance of power after the poll will have a huge influence on Barroso’s chances of re-appointment.More about:
