A British police officer has been questioned on suspicion of manslaughter over the death of a man during demonstrations at the G20 summit in London earlier this month.l
 
47-year-old Ian Tomlinson was caught up in protests in the heart of London’s financial district as he made his way home. 
 
A second post-mortem examination found the newspaper vendor had not died of a heart attack as first thought.
 
Solicitor for the family, Jules Carey, said:
“Obviously the first port-mortem was relevant, the second post-mortem, which refers to blood being in the abdomen, has completely changed the nature and the seriousness of the investigation, such that, the investigation is now properly put as a manslaughter investigation.”
 
More video footage suggests Mr Tomlinson was also struck with a police baton.
 
The victim’s family has known about the results of the second post-mortem for the past week but reluctantly agreed to remain silent while the Independent Police Complaints Commission carried out its investigation.
