GE profit fall not as bad as feared

General Electric has reported a better-than-expected quarterly profit.

The largest US conglomerate is seen as a good gauge of the state of the economy there due to the size and breadth of its operations. A 36 percent drop in net income came partly from lower earnings at its loans division and the NBC Universal media unit where advertising revenue was down. But GE’s energy equipment business was stronger.More about: ,
