Police stop assassination of Morales

Bolivia’s President Evo Morales says security forces have thwarted an assassination attempt against him.

Arriving in Venezuela for a summit with other leftist leaders, including host Hugo Chavez and Cuban President Raul Castro, Morales said a Hungarian and a Bolivian, belived to be mercenaries had been killed following a half-hour hotel shoot-out in the city of Santa Cruz. In addition, Morales claimed intelligence reports showed an Irish person may have been among those involved in the plot, saying the aim of the international group was to kill him, the vice president and a cabinet minister.More about:
