Real IRA plans mainland campaign

world news

| |

The Irish nationalist group which claims to have carried out the recent attack at Massereene Baracks in Northern Ireland, says it is planning a campaign on the British mainland.

In a newspaper interview the Real IRA splinter group, which has only marginal support in the Catholic community, says it will launch against mainland targets when the time is right.

The group which killed two British soldiers at Massereene said it would continue to target the British military.

The Real IRA split from the IRA in 1997 over a peace process, which in 1998, ended 30 years of fighting between minority Irish Republican Catholics and pro British protestants.

The Real IRA opposes any political settlement that falls short of Irish unity and independence.
