Obama holds talks with Sarkozy

America’s Barack Obama has been greeted by the French president and his wife on his first official visit to continental Europe.

At today’s bilateral meeting the French and US Presidents had much to talk about including France’s full integration into NATO. It came just ahead of a summit to mark 60 years of the alliance. The American President has been pressing NATO members including France to commit more troops to Afghanistan, but France said it would be sending more police to train the Afghan police force and not committing more troops. The relationship between the US and France has not always been easy, especially during the Bush administration.
