Police raids on second day of G20 demos

On day two of the G20 protests, the focus switched to London’s Docklands.

With the summit venue transformed into a fortress, demonstrators were kept at a distance, but that did not stop them setting out demands for what they say would be a better world. One activist said he wanted to get rid of weapons and warfare. “There is no need for it,” he argued. “All the wars now are really about oil and it is the oil that we don’t want to burn.” Giving environmental protests a daredevil dimension, French freeclimber Alain Robert scaled a City landmark. As the so-called “Spiderman” climbed part of the Lloyds building, police elsewhere in London raided two addresses. Dozens of people were detained amid suspicions some may have been involved in violent G20 protests on Wednesday.More about:
