Germany’s crackdown on neo-Nazi groups has continued, with the most radical far-right party hit by a huge fine. The NPD, the longest-living far-right party in Germany, has been told to pay more than two and a half million euros, for what parliament said were irregularities in its accounts. The NPD has already admitted it is in financial straits, and is teetering on the brink of collapse: the party needs more than a hundred thousand euros a month and subscriptions amount to less than a third of that.

This is Berlin’s latest attack on the far-right. Earlier this week an organisation called German Patriotic Youth was outlawed for what Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble described as indoctrinating young people against Jews and foreigners.
