Argentina mourns ex-president Alfonsin

The former Argentinian president Raul Alfonsin has died of lung cancer.

The 82-year-old was credited with leading his country towards democracy in the 1980s after seven years of military rule. Alfonsin was president from 1983 to 89. He won international praise for putting on trial the former military leaders on charges of torture and murder. He survived three military uprisings, but in the end he was forced to stand down amid widespread criticism over the way he handled a deep economic crisis.More about:
