The Taliban in Pakistan is being blamed for the storming of a police academy in Lahore which left at least eight cadets and four terrorists dead.

Gunmen disguised in police uniforms stormed the academy this morning, as the cadets were training on the parade ground. Some victims died there, others inside the academy buildings as the attackers prepared their last stand. It took soldiers and police eight hours to claim victory. Four of the attackers blew themselves up rather than be caught, but three were arrested and were kicked and beaten before being hauled away. In the confusion of the gun battle it had been feared the number of victims would be much higher, as there were some 900 cadets in the academy. 89 trainees were wounded, but ten hostages were freed safely. Lahore has suffered terrorist attacks like most Pakistani cities. A month ago the Sri Lankan cricket team was ambushed here on the way to a match.
