Tibetan monks held after “riot” in China

Nearly 100 monks have been detained after a riot in northwest China, according to state-run media.

A police station was reportedly attacked in an ethnic Tibetan part of Qinghai province. This, apparently amid anger over the disappearance of
a man held earlier for advocating Tibetan independence.

It is just over a year since major protests against Chinese rule by Buddhist monks that started in Tibet’s regional capital, Lhasa. Officially, around 20 people died. Tibetan exiles say more than 200 were killed in a crackdown.
