Massive anti-Mafia march in Naples

From across Italy and well beyond its borders, they came to march against “the mob.”

Up to 150,000 people gathered in Naples for one of
the biggest anti-Mafia rallies in recent years.

The relatives of victims held pictures of their loved ones. One banner read: “You didn’t kill them. They are walking with us.”

Vincenzo D’Agostino has lost three family members including his son, a policeman. He said that young people taking part in the march were Italy’s future.
“We must not give up.”

His call was echoed by the priest who heads the association that organised the rally.
Father Luigi Ciotti of Libera (Free) said: “A day like today is meaningful only if we keep fighting for the rest of the year.”

Demonstrators want an end to the stranglehold of organised crime in southern Italy, with those responsible brought to justice. Those whose families have been touched by Mafia violence are, after all, serving a life sentence.
