As police in Northern Ireland continue the hunt for dissidents who carried out two deadly attacks on security forces, it is reported they are also racing to stop a bomb plot. The Guardian newspaper in Britain has reported that security forces on both sides of the Irish border are hunting for a dissident Republican bomb.

It is said to be similar in size to a 150kg car bomb discovered in County Down in January. The paper quotes sources in Dublin and Belfast who say the Real IRA has smuggled a large device into Northern Ireland from the south. The province is on edge after a policeman was shot dead in the town of Craigavon on Monday night, and two soldiers were gunned down at a military base in Antrim. Political leaders from all parties have condemned the violence, insisting that the people of Northern Ireland are united in support of the province’s peace process.More about: Northern Ireland
