Reports of bomb plot in N.Ireland

As police in Northern Ireland continue the hunt for dissidents who carried out two deadly attacks on security forces, it is reported they are also racing to stop a bomb plot. The Guardian newspaper in Britain has reported that security forces on both sides of the Irish border are hunting for a dissident Republican bomb.

It is said to be similar in size to a 150kg car bomb discovered in County Down in January. The paper quotes sources in Dublin and Belfast who say the Real IRA has smuggled a large device into Northern Ireland from the south. The province is on edge after a policeman was shot dead in the town of Craigavon on Monday night, and two soldiers were gunned down at a military base in Antrim. Political leaders from all parties have condemned the violence, insisting that the people of Northern Ireland are united in support of the province’s peace process.More about:
