Relatives of the Sri Lankan cricketers targeted in the Lahore attacks have been voicing shock and anger. Many feel the tour should never have gone ahead in the first place.

Former Sri Lankan cricketer Hashan Tillakaratne said: “We all knew there are so many problems in Pakistan and I don’t know who is responsible for this but then again I’m telling that it is our minister and the government who should take the responsibility.” Another ex-player, Ravindra Pushpakumara, said: “I am really shocked when I heard that news. Then this is what happens in the sports when politics is involved in all the sports. This tour, Sri Lanka Cricket never planned it and I am really shocked.” The Sri Lankan team was only invited to play in Pakistan after Indian cricket authorities pulled out of a scheduled tour citing security fears. The attack is likely to halt all internatinal cricket and perhaps other sports in Pakistan for several years.More about: ,
