Europe’s actors call for equal rights

Actors across Europe are demanding equal rights with musicians to protect their intellectual property ahead of an EU vote.

The European parliament is set to decide later this month whether it will extend protection on recorded music from 50 to 95 years. While a ‘Yes’ vote would give European musicians the same rights enjoyed by their counterparts in the US, performers on screen are unhappy they have been excluded from the bill. Two MEPs along with a group of actors have called on a reworking of the proposed law to include those working in the audiovisual sector. The official aim of the directive is to give greater rights to all those working in the music industry and not just the stars.More about: ,
