Hillary Clinton has underlined the warm nature of America’s relationship with Israel on her first trip there as US Secretary of State.

She met President Shimon Peres and outgoing Israeli Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni, repeating Washington’s goal of a two-state peace solution with Palestinians. “President Obama and I believe that the bond between the United States and Israel and our commitment to Israel’s security and to its democracy as a Jewish state remain fundamental, unshakeable and eternally durable. “The United States will be vigorously engaged in the pursuit of a two-state solution every step of the way,” she said. Clinton also met Benjamin Netanyahu, who is in the process of forming a new government. Contrary to Washington, he is thought to oppose a two-state plan.More about: ,
