Portugal has offered to support Guinea-Bissau following the murder of its president and the violence that led to the death of the armed forces chief.

Prime Minister Jose Socrates described the events as barbaric and offered his country’s help to restore constitutional rule. “The Portuguese government makes itself firmly available to help political and military authorities in the talks they have ahead of them,” he said. The African Union, the EU and the United States have also condemned the killings.More about: ,
