Parties neck and neck in Galicia

world news

Voting is also taking place in the northwestern Galicia region .

Exit polls indicate the final result will be close with the region’s Socialists and conservative People’s Party neck and neck. The socialist’s have fought a tough campaign to hold on to power, having taken control in 2005. But the Galicia region has long been regarded as a conservative stronghold, and is home to Spain’s national People’s Party leader Mariano Rajoy. Dogged by a series of scandals, some believe a loss here would have knock on effects for the People Party at a nationwide level. They have been accused of failing to hold the country’s government to account.
