Escapist fashion for next winter

Baz Lurhmann’s Moulin Rouge is said to have inspired Valeria Marini’s new autumn/winter women’s wear collection which she showed in Milan this week. Sparkly frocks, feathered hats, fur trim and rich jewel colours all featured heavily.

There was a 1930s feel to some of the designs although trousers were generally slimmer. Her hats were trimmed with outsize feathers. Giorgio Armani however, went for a more contemporary and urban look. The accent was firmly on pop socks and heels. Trousers were nowhere to seen. The dominating colours were winter standards – dark green, grey, navy and beige. Blugirl is Anna Molinari’s line for the younger crowd. Glittering mini dresses were teamed with leggings, pop socks and cardies or fur jackets. Colours were strong and contrasting – green with blue, fuschia and beige, multi-coloured prints. The look was accessorised with feather head-desses and arm-length muffs replacing gloves.
