Zimbabwe’s new power-sharing “unity cabinet” has got off to a shaky start despite only having just been sworn in.

President Robert Mugabe tried to claim more of the posts for his party than had been agreed and one senior member of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s MDC party has been arrested. Intense negotiations resolved the dispute over the posts and despite a delay, the ceremony got underway. It has taken since last September for Tsvangirai and Mugabe to allocate cabinet posts, stirring doubts that the two foes could work together. But news that the nominee for deputy minister for agriculture has been accused of treason – charges which the MDC have denounced – does not bode well for the new administration.More about: Zimbabwe
